1. What DeductHound is

DeductHound is an iPhone app that photographs a paper receipt, reads the total, date, merchant and sales tax from it on the device, lets you correct any of those by hand, files the result under a category aligned with IRS Schedule C, and exports the lot as a CSV file or a PDF report. That is the whole of it.

2. What DeductHound is not, and this part matters most

The app records the expenses you enter and adds them up. Deciding whether an expense is ordinary and necessary for your trade or business, which Schedule C line it belongs on, and what you ultimately owe, is your responsibility and your tax professional's. Read the IRS instructions for Schedule C and talk to a professional about your return.

The same applies to the free calculator on this website. It is a planning estimate built from the published 2026 figures, not a computation of your liability. It ignores state and local tax entirely, and it makes simplifying assumptions that are listed on the page.

Nothing the app shows, and nothing it fails to show, is a legal or financial opinion. We are not responsible for a penalty, an interest charge, a disallowed deduction or an audit outcome.

3. Extraction is a starting point, never a final answer

Text recognition on a creased, faded or thermal receipt is imperfect and always will be. That is why the app shows a confirmation screen with every extracted field editable, next to the photograph it came from, before anything is saved. When it cannot find a total it leaves the field empty and focused rather than guessing.

Checking that screen is part of using the app. We do not warrant that any extracted figure is correct, and the number you keep is the number you confirmed.

4. Who can use it

You need to be old enough to enter into a contract where you live, and the Apple Account used to buy the subscription has to be yours to use.

5. Your license

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive right to use DeductHound on the devices your Apple Account allows. You may not resell it, rent it, copy it, reverse engineer it or take it apart, except where the law gives you that right anyway.

6. Your receipts are yours

Everything you photograph, type or export belongs to you. We never receive it and we claim no right over it, not to promote the app, not to improve it, not to train anything, not for any purpose at all. What you choose to export and send to your accountant, your client or anyone else is your decision and your responsibility.

7. The subscription, and how to leave it

DeductHound is sold as an auto-renewing subscription with two plans, one yearly and one weekly. There is no free trial, so the price you see is the price charged when you confirm. The App Store always shows the exact amount and currency that applies in your country before you buy. At the time of writing the United States prices are 79.99 US dollars per year and 12.99 US dollars per week.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation. It renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. To cancel, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel anything.

If you reinstall, change device or buy again by mistake, use Restore Purchases. It sits on the paywall and in Settings, it is free, and it needs the same Apple Account you bought with.

Refunds are handled by Apple and only by Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue one. Write to us anyway if something went wrong and we will help you put the request in front of the right people.

8. What we promise and what we cannot

We promise that receipt images and the text read from them are processed on your device and are never uploaded to us, that the app never silently changes a figure you confirmed, and that an export contains exactly the entries in the period you selected.

We cannot promise that extraction will read a given receipt correctly, that a deduction you record will be accepted, or that the estimate on the calculator will match your filed return. Those depend on your paper, your business and your circumstances, not on the software.

9. Your data and your backup

The app stores your data on the device and syncs it to your own private iCloud under your Apple Account. That means recovery works without an account with us, and it also means we cannot recover anything for you. Keep iCloud sync on, and export a CSV at the end of each quarter. 10. Changes to the app

We may update DeductHound, change how a feature behaves or stop offering one. If a change takes away something you have already paid for, you keep it until the end of the period you paid for.

11. This website

The pages, the copy, the calculator and the design here belong to us. You are welcome to read them, quote them with a link and share them. You may not republish them wholesale or pass the calculator off as your own.

The tax figures cited on this site are quoted from primary Internal Revenue Service sources, and every one of them is linked to the document it came from. Tax law changes. We update the site when it does, but the source document always wins over our summary of it.

12. Liability

To the extent the law allows, the app and this website are provided as they are, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the subscription in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, in particular for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing here takes away the consumer rights your own country gives you.

13. If these terms change

The version and the date at the top say which text applies to you. A material change is published at this address before it takes effect.
